Directly opposite the railway station, in the heart of Huddersfield, this beautifully preserved classic Victorian railway hotel is known around the world as the birthplace of Rugby League. Originally built in 1851, the George Hotel has been carefully preserved as an elegant Grade II listed building. In 1895, the building played host to the meeting that founded Rugby League Football. Within the hotel itself is the UK’s only Rugby League heritage museum, which houses memorabilia and great artefacts from the game.
